A conceptual alert system for localized seismic activity to help better prepare vulnerable individuals and those living in remote areas with high risk of movement. Research on the natural disaster pinpointed that earthquakes aren't life threatening, but the effect they have on our infrastructure is. This conceptual first alert system notifies the user of potential seismic activity based off of other devices in the area. Creating a network of data collection, these small alarms function as an ordinary alarm clock by default, switching to life saving technology to aid in getting individuals to safety before any building collapses.

Residential Design - Big Tiny
The unique challenges of this project continue to make it a personal favorite. Big Tiny is an ADU that came to fruition from a families unique needs of their multigenerational property in the Columbia Neighborhood of Bellingham Washington. Inspired by structures three times its size, this small Detached-ADU sits nestled in a family backyard ready for family and friends arrival. A unique solution was found to maximize square footage of living space while still maintaining separated living and sleeping quarters. Bringing Big Tiny to fruition took multiple family wide meetings to ensure that requirements were met in order for the home to be hospitable for the families college age daughter and aging mother. After all, Big Tiny was the name given to the home by the mother after their tall ambitions for a small space. The final design achieves full sized living in a third of the footprint. We were able to add to the overall square footage of the home by integrating the covered walkway that joins the two structures, incorporating a space for indoor-outdoor living that's suitable for Washington's unpredictable climate. Within 799 square feet, we have incorporated a separate sleeping chamber with ensuite bathroom featuring an ample walk in shower, fit for a queen (sized bed). No sacrifice was made in the kitchen as counter space comes in an abundance with a built in bar seating area. Including the kitchen, the main living wing of the home features a home office, living room, guest bathroom, built in washer and drier, and pantry integrated into the hall.
